Golden Girl, Julien Alfred to compete at last sprint of 2024, Diamond League in Brussels

The Golden Girl of Saint Lucia, Julien Alfred is all set to add another accolade to her collection by participating in her final sprint event at the international stage for 2024, Diamond League in Brussels on Friday, 13th September 2024. The race has been scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm, concluding her season at the Allianz Memorial van Damme in Brussels.

This race has once again raised up the excitement level of the viewers to witness the old confrontation between the top two athletes of the world, Julien Alfred and World Champion Sha’Carri ‘Richardson.

With both Julien Alfred and Sha’Carri Richardson bringing serious heat to the track, the 2024 Diamond League Final in Brussels Is shaping up to be a Showdown.

Alfred who has just turned 23 years old in June has produced an electrifying sprint in Paris last month. She stunned the rest of the field and a global audience to win gold in 10.72 seconds ahead of Richardson (10.87 seconds) in second.

Along with that, she also claimed a silver medal in the 200 meters behind Gabriele Thomas (USA), earning the first-ever Olympic medals for Saint Lucia. Alfred also had one Diamond League victory under her belt in 2024, clocking the time of 10.85 seconds in Monaco on 12th July.

However, in the most recent meet which was held in Zurich on September 5, was Richardson who eased past Alfred in 10.84 seconds to win the gold medal. Therefore, when she was asked about taking a revenge from the former, Alfred stated that she is not here for revenge and she does not want to use that word.

She stated that she never runs the race against anyone, instead she does it for her own self. “I never run against anyone, I do it for myself and just want to finish the season in style. For the same reason, I’m not focused on times either.

Moreover, Alfred also expressed her excitement on returning back to Saint Lucia to celebrate with her nation. She stated that she is looking forward to meet her people and enjoy her accomplishment with them.

Also, the government of Saint Lucia has made it even more special for their first ever Olympic gold medallist by announcing a public holiday on 27th September in honour of Alfred. Notably, she will return to the island nation on 24th September 2024 via the Hewanorra International Airport where the welcome will be followed by a Motorcade on the East Coast from Airport to Gros Islet.

Following the next day, the rallies will be conducted at the Soufriere Mini Stadium and the La Ressource Playing Field. After that, Alfred will visit the Ciceron Combined School for the unveiling of an Iconic Mural.

And, on the national holiday, declared as Julien Alfred Day, a concert will be held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in order to acknowledge the greatest accomplishment of Julien Alfred.
