GDF officer commits suicide after murdering wife at Sunset Hotel

Georgetown, Guyana: Vishal Appadu, who stabbed his wife to death at Sunset Hotel, died by suicide on Friday. The information was confirmed by the Regional Division Six Commander Shivpersuad Bacchus.

Notably, a former GDF rank officer who lastly worked as a car driver was wanted for the murder of his wife, Romona Lall.

It is to be noted that Lall, a 32-year-old woman who was his wife and mother of 3 from Lot 1503 Kilcoy Chesney in Corentyne at Berbice, was brutally stabbed multiple times in the stomach and succumbed to injuries. Further investigation of the matter is ongoing.

Details of Lall’s murder

Romona Lall was a 32-year-old woman who was killed brutally by her abusive common-law husband with whom she shared a relationship for the last ten years.

Her body was discovered in the room of Sunset Hotel in Kitty.

Appadu was a former officer of the Guyana Defence Force and a former prison officer of the Guyana Prison Service. However, due to some personal issues, he started working as a taxi driver following his retirement from GDF.

Priya Narine, Lall’s cousin, had given a statement to the police that she saw her sister arriving at Sunset Hotel along with her husband on the day of Lall’s death.

Shockingly, a mother of three was found naked and dead with multiple wounds all over her body. She further stated that Appadu used to beat her wife and kept her isolated from her relatives.

As a result, Lall left her in-law’s home and shifted to her mother’s house to live, but her husband visited her and begged her to give her a second chance.

While going back to their home, they unfortunately missed their boat. Due to this, they then booked a room at Sunset Hotel. It is still not clear what actually transpired between the couple that the next day, they received the news about the tragic death of Lall.

The dead body was taken to Memorial gardens Funeral Home.

The news has gained limelight in the social media. Many people shared their opinions regarding the case. One such person, Chandra Seetaram said, “Control your anger. Someone who can’t control their anger is a beast even his life, he has lost control guilt, maybe?? A wife is a companion not a slave remember that!”

Another person named as Jean Dhanpersuad wrote, “Too much pain in his heart…Couldn’t take it anymore when he realized what he did…Sad for how he took the girl’s life…Men and women boys and girls walk away from trouble if you can…”
