Dominica: UWP may change position on contesting snap general elections 2022

Dominica: The politics in the Commonwealth of Dominica has taken another turn as the spokesperson of the United Workers Party (UWP) – Dr Irving Pascal, has asked the opposition supporters to contest the upcoming snap general elections independently.

Pascal, who is also one of the contender for leadership of the UWP, made this announcement during a radio programme on Q 95 Wednesday morning. He furthermore stated that he would back the leaders and would provide the required amount of nomination, which is ECD 500. Additionally, he went off saying that “The UWP should not allow the Labour Party to go unopposed on December 6th.”

The statement by the leader of UWP was opposed by the senior minister of the Labour government – Reginald Austrie, who remarked that he was not surprised by the saying of the spokesman of UWP and termed it as another manifestation of the confusion which exists in the utterance of the United Workers Party.

He also stated that UWP is a party with no leader, no policies and no plan. Reginald Austrie went on to say that it is the very same UWP who stated that the election is fraudulent, yet still, they want to contest in a covert manner because they know the masses are not with them.

According to the announcement by the Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the country will witness elections of December 6, 2022 and the political parties will file nomination on November 18, 2022 (Friday). Since the announcement by the PM, Dominica has been seeing political turmoil as UWP decided to back-off and not contesting in the elections.

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) leaders belive that the party of opposition has backed-off as it is a leaderless party without any plan and agenda.
