Roseau: Expressing concern over the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, several leaders expressed their concern. Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also issued a statement while expressing his concerns over the long-going political crisis between both countries.
In his statement, PM Skerrit highlighted, “Dominica is very concerned about the situation along the Russian Federation-Ukraine border.”
He further supported the idea and asked the countries to solve the issues via bilateral talks rather than involving their militaries, as the world might witness massive consequences.
“We believe that the issues relating to tensions between Russia & Ukraine required to be addressed via diplomatic efforts. A military solution would not redound to the benefit of any nation”, Prime Minister added.
PM Skerrit further noted the severity of quarrels between Ukraine and Russia, adding that they – pose a threat to international peace, security and will eventually lead to unprecedented implications for global community.
“The world can ill-afford armed conflict during this period of – global uncertainty, which would result in adverse social & economic impacts and political strife,” the statement of the Prime Minister Skerrit further outlined.
Calling on the consequences of this political warfare on the global level, PM Skerrit underscored the significance to maintain peace, safety and security at the international level, noting, “Dominica government and people call for – de-escalation dialogue to ease tensions and secure a nonviolent resolution to the conflict, and the charting of a path to peace for the safety and security of all.”
Meanwhile, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, in his recent statement, accused and blamed the United States government for pulling the European nation to have a war with its neighbouring nation – Ukraine.
The current ongoing conflict between both nations arises as Ukraine stands firm on its decision to become the member state of NATO – North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which the Russian government does not want.
The tensions between Ukraine and Russia traces back to the time when the SOVIET UNION got divided into 15 officially independent countries.
