Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on April 22, 2022, welcomed the team from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) to Dominica.
The team was led by the Director-General of ECCAA – Anthony Whittier. The team members included – Trevor Davis – Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Manager; Richard Cox – CNS Inspector and Jaime Calderon – ECCAA Aerodrome Expert.
The ECCAA team has landed in Dominica to pay a visit to the International Airport Site in Wesley. Team ECCAA would also conduct discussions with key local officials engaged in the development of the International Airport Project. Expectedly, the construction work of the International Airport would be completed by 2024, and the first flight would likely take off in 2025.
Prime Minister Skerrit further expressed pleasure in collaborating with ECCAA as the nation has been moving ahead to build the international airport project.
“Dominica is pleased to collaborate with ECCAA as we forge ahead with plans to construct the international airport,” Prime Minister Skerrit mentioned.
The International Airport of Dominica construction was commenced after the Government signed an agreement to build the first international airport. At that time, Prime Minister Skerrit proudly announced that the Government had delivered the first tangible as well as visible step to make the international airport in Dominica.
He stated, “Today, Dominicans have witnessed the evidence of its substance about to take shape in the country”.
The construction work of the International Airport has been taking place in the village of Wesley. This project is totally funded by the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme of Dominica, which is indeed worth appreciating.
The Government of Dominica also took care of the families who had lost their homes due to the construction of this new project. Dominican authorities built new homes at the Joe Burton sites for the residents of Wesley Village.
