Roseau, Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica experienced the celebration of the National Dialogue on the Ginger and Turmeric Agricultural Market System on August 2, 2023, according to the update by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Blue and Green Economy. The event was organised in collaboration with WUSC Caribbean (SAC Project).
The Ministry informed that the Market System was observed under the theme: Forging the way forward for a sustainable sub-sector.
“The Ministry and WUSC CARIBBEAN (SAC Project) facilitated a National Dialogue on the Ginger and Turmeric Agricultural Market System with the theme: ‘Forging the Way Forward for a Sustainable Sub-sector”,” updated the Ministry of Agriculture of Dominica through its social media platform.
According to the official update, the session was held at the Jungle Bay Resort and Spa to obtain background on the sector, to obtain the input of the current producers, exporters and manufacturers and to increase the communication between all industry players, including technicians with the Ministry and its partners.
Reportedly, Former DoA Extension Officer and coordinator of the Integrated Rural Development Project (IRDP) John Alexander Stephenson, Director of Trade Matthan Walter, Ministry of Agriculture Officer Anthony Cyrille and Regional Climate Smart Agriculture Specialist for the SAC Project Alvin Murray facilitated the various sessions.
It is to be noted that the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica puts tireless efforts to promote and grow the agricultural sector of the nation as it is counted as one of the prime sectors. Agricultural practices are regarded as one of the major contributors towards the economy of the country.
In this regard, many outreach programmes are conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, jointly with the government of Dominica and other international or regional organisations, to assist the local farmers and people associated with agriculture or farming.
During this Budget session, the government assured to pay more attention towards the sector, taking the budget allocation to $56.2 million (in 2023-2024) from $55 million (in 2022-2023).
