St Kitts and Nevis: In the latest political development in the twin-island Federation, seven (7) Parliament Members have written a letter to the Governor-General SW Tapley Seaton and expressed “no confidence” in present Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris.
All members have asked the Governor-General to make Shawn Richards, Deputy Prime Minister, the new PM of St Kitts and Nevis.
Leader of People’s Action Movement (PAM) and Deputy Prime Minister – Richards stated that seven (7) members of Parliament of St Kitts and Nevis had informed the Governor-General that they neither wanted Dr Timothy Harris as Prime Minister of the Federation nor had any confidence in him.
He further outlined that six (6) MPs informed the Governor-General that they wanted Shawn K Richards as the new Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.
The letter by MPs also read that PM Harris, as a representative of Team Unity, failed to address the concerns of the team members.
The members who wrote the letter to the Governor-General are – four (4) leaders of PAM, Shawn K Richards, Eugene Hamilton, Lindsey Grant, Jonel Powell and three leaders of Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), Mark Brantley, Eric Evelyn and Alexis Jeffers.
St Kitts and Nevis has witnessed this political turmoil for around a month. Earlier, CCM and PAM gave PM Harris a deadline of April 20, 2022, to address the concerns of the other members of Team Unity, but he failed to do so.
Richard asserted that CCM and PAM tried their best to bring stability to Team Unity, but because of “one man – Timothy Harris,” they failed.
Furthermore, the leader of PAM expressed that the political parties are ready to contest elections for the seat of Prime Minister, as PM Harris may seek a legal route to remain in the position.
As per the current scenario, there are chances that St Kitts and Nevis might witness general elections in the coming 21 days.
