Caribbean Airlines launches inaugural flight from Guyana to Suriname, strengthening regional connectivity

Caribbean Airlines officially marked its inaugural flight from Ogle, Georgetown, Guyana Airport to the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport in Paramaribo, Suriname. The inaugural flight landed at the airport on Sunday, 3rd November, 2024, with a vision to accommodate a large number of travellers and strengthen relations between the islands.

As per the details, this new route will connect Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname, aiming to boost the islands’ economies and connectivity. These services will also play a huge role in opening doors to several opportunities for citizens by providing them with more travel options, promoting trade, and fostering cultural exchange.

Notably, these services will offer two extra weekly flights to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago via the route OGL Airport in Guyana and vice versa. As per the schedule, these services will be available on the days including Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

As per the route, the first flight B38M (B737-8M) will travel from Port of Spain, Trinidad to Paramaribo (PBM), Suriname. These operations will be made two days, i.e. Tuesday and Friday.

The next flight B38M (B737-8M) will traverse from Paramaribo (PBM) to Port of Spain on the days including, Wednesday and Saturday. And, the final flight AT76 (ATR 72-600) will travel from POS to PBM via OGL and PBM to POS via OGL on the days including Friday and Sunday.

The welcoming ceremony of the inaugural flight of Caribbean Airlines to Suriname was attended by several delegates, including the CEO of Suriname Guyana Chamber of Commerce, Rahul Lildhar; President of Tourism and Hospitality Association Guyana, Dee George; Minister of Tourism, Industry & Commerce, Oneidge Walrond; Country Manager, Guyana and Suriname, Caribbean Airlines, Renatha Marshall and many others.

The Ministry of Tourism of Suriname expressed delight and stated that by expanding the flights of the Caribbean Airlines to Suriname to 4 times a week, the traveling public will further be accommodated. They added that these services will play an effective role in promoting the international public.

The authorities emphasized that these services by the Caribbean Airlines will bring several benefits to the airport, making Suriname a hub for the north and east of the world to South America and the Caribbean.

They added that they are on the right track to promote their tourism sector to greater heights by using their cultural diversity and beauty to attract tourists to Suriname. They added that Suriname is already known as the 3rd carbon negative country in the world which is the crucial component of their tourism sector.

Now, with the services of Caribbean Airlines, they are making efforts to develop the aviation sector of Suriname, enhancing tourism and the economic sector.
