A Brazilian footballer – William Ribeiro, has been charged with an attempt to murder after he kicked the Referee in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Brazil: A Brazilian footballer – William Ribeiro, has been charged with an attempt to murder after he kicked the Referee in the head, knocking him unconscious.
Although, the footballer was released from prison on Tuesday.
The police chief of Venancio Aires – Vinicius de Lourenco de Assuncao, stated that the footballer was arrested after attacking referee Rodrigo Crivellaro in the head during a match on Monday in Venancio Aires, in Brazil’s southern the Rio Grande do Sul state.
The match took between Sport Club Sao Paulo and Guarani-RS in the Rio Grande do Sul state’s second tier. Ribeiro was playing for Sport Club Sao Paulo, attacked – Referee Crivellaro at the beginning of the second half.
After which, the Referee got unconscious and was immediately taken to the hospital and got discharged on Tuesday.
The Referee, while talking to a radio station, cited that, “I do not really remember what actually happened. My refereeing colleagues informed me that I gave him a ‘yellow card’. He punched me in my face, after which I fell to the ground, got kicked, and passed out.”
Following the statement, Referee added, “This player needs treatment as he is totally out of control. He deserves to be detained for a long time.”
While, no statement has been yet issued by the Brazilian footballer.
The Rio Grande do Sul state issued a statement on Monday stating that it had opened an ‘investigation’ into the incident, while ‘Sport Club Sao Paulo’ stated that its “deeply ashamed” of the aggression and that Ribeiro’s contract had been ended.
The letter written to the team states that “The aggressor athlete’s contract is summarily terminated. Furthermore, all possible and legal measures in relation to the fact will be taken.”
The case of the footballer is with the state public defender as no lawyer rose to defend Ribeiro, according to Assuncao.
