Barbados reports 167 additional COVID-19 infections

Barbados: Barbados has reported a total of 167 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 78 males and 89 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 7,232 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 23 September 2021. 

As per to the report, there are 867 individuals who are in isolation till 23 September 2021, while one individual lost life to the COVID-19 mutant. The deceased was a 55-year-old Guyanese woman who passed away on Thursday after spending 22 days in isolation. 

With this additional death, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 64. 

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 7,232 cases (3,577 males and 3,655 females). The public health laboratory has performed 304,765 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation report further states that so far, a total of 130,046 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 100,802 individuals that is 37.2 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus. 

Out of the 167 new cases registered, 38 out of them are under 18 years, and 129 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance. She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
