Barbados records 1 death and 681 new COVID cases in 24 hrs

Barbados recorded 681 new cases of the COVID-19 virus on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, as per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in its daily COVID-19 update report.

Among these new cases, 307 are men, and 374 are women. One death has also been recorded by the healthcare authorities on February 1, 2022, taking the total toll of death rate to 282 in the Caribbean island.

The deceased is a 60-year-old unvaccinated woman who passed away from the viral mutant on Tuesday at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility.

According to the data of the report, there are a total of 2,600 individuals who are at present in the isolation facilities, whereas in total, 10,543 persons have isolated themselves at their respective homes on the advice of a medical practitioner.

Since February 2020, a total of 542,580 tests have been conducted by the public health laboratory in Barbados.

The report of the health ministry noted that the island country is having a total of 45,897 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, of which a total of 21,276 individuals tested positive for the virus were male, and the remaining 24,621 were female.

Out of the newly reported cases, 130 individuals are the ones who are under the age group of 18 years, and 551 are of 18 years and older.

COVID-19 vaccination in the island:

Till February 1, 2022, there are a total of 158,775 persons who have taken their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, whereas, in total, 147,277 individuals are the ones who have received their needed number of the vaccine jabs and hence, are now fully immunised.

The health ministry noted that 54.3% of the overall population is fully vaccinated, while 64.5% of the eligible population of the Caribbean island is fully inoculated. Meanwhile, around 69.5% of the total population is vaccinated by taking at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.
