Bahamas: FNM leader Michael Pintard griefs passing of Elva Russell-Rolle

Bahamas: The Free National Movement (FNM) Leader Michael C. Pintard MP issues the following statement on the passing of Elva Russell-Rolle.

The Free National Movement has lost an esteemed Meritorious Council Member (MCM) and patriot, who never waivered in her drive to see better for our beautiful Bahamaland. Elva Russell-Rolle’s life was one that took her around the world as she was revered by many for her work ethic.

Early in her career, she began within the banking sector, but would soon embrace her passion in the field of Media as a prominent radio and television personality with the Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas.

Elva became a premier broadcaster known for her sharp interviewing skills and an employee whom many grew to recognize as one who always went above and beyond the call of duty. In her later career, Russell-Rolle would take that very same professionalism to the insurance industry where she was rated among the top agents in the country, known for her persistence and excellent customer service.

It was Elva’s love for country was on display through her words and actions within the Free National Movement, where she worked tirelessly to assist the party, its members, candidates, and supporters both financially and through volunteerism. Never shy to give her opinion, she would always share a word to the wise and stood strong in her beliefs. She was an extraordinary human being, effective in her delivery and deliberation of many issues of the day, but most of all she was honest and compassionate and loved by us all. I really got to know Elva in the run up to the 1997 general elections. Her candid conversation and straightforward position was refreshing for me as a candidate on the frontline.

Elva, was born and raised in Nassau, where she attended Xavier College and would later be among the pioneering students entering the Nassau Technical Institute, which later became the College of the Bahamas in 1964. Graham Junior College in Boston Massachusetts, Levitan Business School, and the University of Miami were institutions attended by Russell-Rolle, who obtained degrees in English Language and Literature and Communications. Elva’s tenacity was unmatched and her strength undeniable. She was an advocate for the rights and equality of women, but above it all, she was committed to human rights.

She was the wife of former Minister and Member of Parliament for the FNM and MCM Anthony “Boozie” Rolle and the mother of three beautiful children, Tracee, Gemma, and Andrew. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

On behalf of my family, the Free National Movement, and Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, extend our deepest sympathy to MCM Rolle and the entire family. The FNM is a greater party because of Elva Russell- Rolle’s work and contribution and we are indeed grateful for the time she shared with us and the wisdom bestowed.

May her soul rest in peace.
