Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association congratulates female athletes for 1st and 2nd standings worldwide
Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) has extended heartiest congratulations the two young athletes of the country for qualifying for the CARIFTA Games 2023.

Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) has extended heartiest congratulations the two young athletes of the country for qualifying for the CARIFTA Games 2023. The association also highlighted that it is for the first time in the history that two female athletes of Antigua and Barbuda has been ranked at number 1 and 2, across the globe.
“Antigua and Barbuda, we have a lot to be proud of, we have some feel good news to share with you the public. For the first time in the history of Athletics in Antigua and Barbuda, we have two young female athletes holding the number 1 and number 2 ranked positions IN THE WORLD in the Girls Under-18 200 m category,” the association stated on social media.
The ABAA also introduced the athletes and outlined that ranked number 1 with an outstanding time of 23.40 seconds is none other than LaNica Locker of the Ottos Comprehensive School. The towering sprinter who hails from the PSE Track Club, achieved that time on Sunday 5th February 2023 at our 3rd Development meet series. Ms Locker was not done there as she is also ranked number 3 in the world in the Girls under-18 100 m with a time of 11.78 seconds.
Furthermore, it stated that Geolyna Dowdy who finished second to Locker on Sunday with a time of 23.92sec joins Locker on the world ranking podium at the number 2 spot in the Girls under-18 200 m.
The Princess Margaret School student who hails from the Phoenix Track Club is also ranked number 5 in the Girls under-18 100 m with a time of 11.84 second, informed ABAA.
Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association proudly noted that Antigua now boasts 2 of the top 5 ranked spots in the world in both sprint (100m/200m) U18 events.
While concluding, it stated, “Antigua and Barbuda we ask you to join us to congratulate these two young ladies on their achievements this early in the athletics season. We ask that you encourage them and continue to motivate them and all the other athletes we have preparing tirelessly, as they seek to go forward and represent this great nation.”
