6-year-old accidently shot in Jamaica

Kingston, Jamaica: Another case of murder has been reported in the island, where on Monday morning, a six-year-old was accidentally shot in the Central Kingston area.

The victim has been identified as Timora McCallum. The reports state that the girl was murdered at her Tex Lane home.

The 6-year-old was a student of St Aloysius Primary.

A man (who has yet not been identified) was supposedly toying with a gun when he accidentally shot McCallum.

This is an unfortunate incident which took place. The police authorities are seeking to question the accused regarding the incident. The reports revealed that the shooter is still in the area only.

Further, no more information has been provided by the police officials, although they have started their investigation.

Soon after the incident took place, the general public gathered around the residence of the 6-year-old girl.

Earlier, seeing the massive rise in murder cases, Prime Minister Andrew Holness imposed a state of emergency in the hotspot regions, where the crime rate is constantly rising.

PM Holness also gave power to the police authorities to put a curfew in the regions in which they witness a surge in killings, gang violence.

The police officers have been given permission to take any action they need to in order to curb the rising crime in Jamaica.

Jamaica is now among the Caribbean countries who are having a high crime rate.

A 48-hour curfew in sections of Zimbabwe, Mexico and Angola communities in the Kingston Western Division on November 29, 2021, by the police officers.

Prime Minister has a firm belief in measures such as – imposing the state of emergency or curfew to restrict the rising gang violence and murders in the island country.

This rising crime rate could also prove to be a threat to the tourism sector.
