The Chess Olympiad is a tournament which is organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) every two years. This tournament plays a huge role in bringing together the best chess players from all over the world to compete in a series of challenging matches.

This tournament is divided into two sections: the Open section, for players with an Elo rating below 2300, and the Women’s section, for female players with an Elo rating below 2200.

This year more than 190 teams will participate in the Open section of the 45th Olympiad. This year’s event has 11 rounds and is a team Swiss tournament played in classical time control – 90+30.

The Dominica Chess Federation is particularly pleased to be able to field a Women’s team this year. This achievement is in alignment with one of FIDE’s key initiatives: – to increase the number of female players in the sport of chess. They also extended gratitude to all the team members who are all set to represent Dominica at this international chess event.

The participation of Dominica at the 45th edition of Chess Olympiad is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the authorities towards positioning the island nation on a global map. Their participation also signifies the role that the administration is taking in order to advocate for equal representations of all men and women at all place.

While shedding light on women’s participation, the authorities noted that Dominica’s female power is not less than anyone’s, and the best example of that is the nation’s first Olympic gold medallist, Thea Lafond.

They noted that today, Dominica’s women are actively participating in various fields and setting up a huge example and becoming a source of inspiration for all those ladies who still hesitates to follow their passion or dreams.
