Mother along with 6-yr-old daughter dies after house collapses in Guyana

In a horrific incident, a mother, along with her daughter, dies after their house collapses in Guyana. The incident took place on January 5, 2022, at around 4 pm at Bonasika Creek, as per the police reports.

The lady and her daughter were feeding the puppies under the house when it collapsed, taking their lives. The lady has been identified as a 35-year-old Seematie Chandra, a farmer by profession, while the girl was 6-years-old named Christine Sookdeo.

There were a total of five members in the family, three children and a couple, residing in the home. The deceased lady has been survived by his husband and other two children.

Chandras’ husband 45-year-old husband, Tulsieram Sookdeo, was not at home when the incident took place. While talking to the local media, her husband, who is also a farmer, informed her that he left home at around 3:50 pm for his work.

Neighbours informed Sookdeo about the mishappening, after which he rushed to the place and saw her daughter with her wife underneath the tumbled home. The house was built at the Lower Bonasika Creek, Essequibo River address.

The police authorities furthermore informed that the villagers assisted in removing the bodies, who via boat were transported to Parika Hubu Stelling, from where the bodies were carried to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where the daughter and her mother were declared dead by the doctor.

A few weeks back, the Caribbean island witnessed continuous hefty rainfall and flooding in many of the areas. To address the issue, President Dr Irfaan Ali activated the task force and even himself visited several flood-affected regions, consoling and listening to the people while promising them to set the situation.

Dozens of homes were destroyed during the flooding last month.
