Melissa Skerrit hosts successful Women’s Symposium

Roseau, Dominica: Melissa Skerrit, the Housing and Urban Minister of Dominica hosted the Women’s Symposium. On its success, the minister extended heartfelt thanks to the speakers. This event was hosted on March 9, 2024 at Fort Young Hotel, under the theme, “Find your Peace, Find your Purpose.”

“The Find your Peace, Find your Purpose Women’s Symposium was an absolute success,” quoted the Minister Melissa Skerrit.

The symposium aimed at encouraging women and addressing the issues being faced by them in the community. Considerably, 150 women attended the event and revealed their contribution.

At the Women’s Symposium, Dr Thecla Fitz-Lewis, the CEO and Principal Consultant for Lewis Management and Consultancy Services (LMCS). She is a highly accomplished professional with a diverse educational background, and has the experience of over 35 years in both the sectors that are public and private with the leading executive roles in male dominated careers.

The next day, the speaker who got featured was Donna Hinkson. She has the experience of over 25 years at the senior level management in the business industries. This included merchandising, hotel and tourism, banking finance and insurance.

Her expertise in all these would also benefit the women in the community. Donna Hinkson, as well, has been providing service in the practices of Wealth Management and Financial Planning. The key areas included in this are budgeting, risk management, and insurance needs.

Probing ahead, on the third day, Nataile Andrea Josphe got featured. The personality has worked as a cosmetologist and owns her brand under Genesis Unisex Salon. This serves both men and women. She even served as the female lead vocalist in the Dominica Swinging Stars band from 2000 to 2006.

Another day, that is fourth, Cindy Emmanuel-Mclean got featured who has worked in several fields in the major sporting events like FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Indian Premier League. As the event aimed at encouraging the women of the country, the symposium highlighted the achievements and emphasized on unity and women empowerment.

The event turned out to be a great hit and fostered the women to shine in each and every field. This would mark the empowered state of the women, outlines the commitment of the organizers.
