Trinidad and Tobago: Boxing Day will never be the same again for Detective Onika Pascual Medina, stated the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
TTPS shared a story experienced by WPC Pascual Medina while off-duty. The police service took social media and stated, “Medina had just left for her home, driving along Observatory and Bath Street, Port-of-Spain, around 8 am, when a man flagged down her vehicle. She instinctively reversed and saw an elderly man lying motionless at the roadside, where the good Samaritan who was raising the alarm informed her that the elderly man appeared unconscious, unresponsive and in need of immediate medical assistance.”
The man told the Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigations Department officer that she was the only vehicle of many to actually stop and listen, having tried to signal many others for help.
WPC Pascual Medina sprang into action with the assistance of the gentleman, who placed the elderly man into her personal vehicle and quickly drove him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
Upon arrival at the facility, she assisted the medical team and ensured the man was attended to.
As she took up duties the following day, she visited the hospital to check in with the man, who remained unidentified.
Unfortunately, he died.
“Before I got in for duty, I was eager to know how he was going. I felt really sad when I heard he died, honestly,” she lamented.
She continued, “My heart goes out to him and his family, and I pray that he is identified soon and given a great send-off. During this time, I also send love and warmth to all who are experiencing hardship in this Christmas season, and I want them to know that there is somebody out there who would not hesitate to look out for and after you.”
“Let’s continue to be each other’s keepers in love and unity,” she added.
