Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Carnival Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, profoundly known as The Carnival Institute and Regional Carnival (CIRC), shared a feature on soca artist Ken Marlon Charles, on stage known as KMC.
The social media post by CIRC stated, “On Music Monday, we feature one of the nation’s soca artists, Ken Marlon Charles, a.k.a. KMC. He was born on January 5, 1971, and raised in Rio Claro, Trinidad.”
As per the Carnival Institute, KMC started his career in music as a dance-hall artiste, recording and releasing several records. In 1998, he took a musical decision to begin performing Soca, bursting onto the scene with hits such as “Kaya”, “Bashment to Carnival”, and “Soca Bashment”. KMC has made a name for himself as a solo artist, songwriter, producer and frontline act of the Red, White & Black band.
Furthermore, it informed that in April 2005, KMC signed with the US-based record label Sequence Records. He produced songs for some of the leading Soca artists, including Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin (Ian Alvarez), Maximus Dan (Edghill Thoms), Destra Garcia, Denise Belfon, and Jungle (Darren Anthony Badal). KMC is also known for songs like “Doh Want to Know”, “Carnival Rags”, “Rough Wine”, “Flopping Up”, “First Experience”, “Cyah X Me Out”, and “Animal”. KMC’s passion for music as a child has made him a master of his craft as he continues to evolve.
It also noted that his music is authentic, and he effortlessly enchants his audience with his smooth and raspy vocals, which embrace love and light through instruments, voice and soul.
Along with this, it also shared a YouTube link and asked the audience to listen to one of KMC’s lyrical compositions for Carnival – “First Experience” (2005).
Last week, the ‘Music Monday’ segment informed about Destra Gracia. As per the update, CIRC featured Trinidad’s “Queen of Bacchanal”, Destra Garcia. Destra was born on November 10 1977 and raised in the community of Laventille, Port of Spain.
