South Africa wins second Test against West Indies, SA bags series

West Indies, Caribbean: The West Indies lost the second Test against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg by 284 runs on Saturday. Chasing a target of 391 runs to win the match and level the series, the West Indies were blown away for 106 in 35.1 overs, according to Cricket360.

The West Indies made a watchful start, scoring 21 off the first ten overs before Kraigg Brathwaite was trapped leg before wicket by Kagiso Babada for 18. Two balls later, Raymon Reifer was out for a second ball duck after he feathered a catch into the gloves of Heinrich Klaasen off Babada without no addition to the score.

The Caribbean side slipped to 25 for three wickets when off-spinner Simon Harmer lured Tagenarine Chanderpaul (2) to edge a delivery into the hands of Dean Elgar at second slip. One run later, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled Roston Chase for a duck. By then, wickets were falling like ripe mangoes in season, and Jermaine Blackwood offering catching practice to Temba Bavuma at slip was caught off Harmer for four, leaving the West Indies in dire straits at 26 for five wickets.

The West Indies continued to stumble in the dark at 34 for six wickets when Kyle Mayers was dismissed leg-before wicket for seven by Maharaj just before lunch. After lunch, Josh Da Silva (34) and Jason Holder (19) added 58 for the seventh wicket. Gerald Coetzee uprooted Holder’s stumps and bowled Da Silva.

According to Cricket360, Harmer completed the formalities when he had Alzarri Joseph stumped by Klaasen for 18 to end the match before tea on the fourth day. Rabada picked up two wickets for seven runs; Harmer captured three wickets for 45 runs; Coetzee took three wickets for 37 runs; and Maharaj, who suffered a freak injury and had to be stretchered off the field, dismissed two batsmen for four runs.

The Proteas resuming at 287 for seven wickets, were dismissed for 321. Man of The Match Temba Bavuma, who was 171 not out, added one run to his overnight score. Holder took two wickets to finish with three wickets for 48 runs from 19.4 overs.
