Castries, Saint Lucia: Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister of the Caribbean island country of Saint Lucia, has recently attended the Regional Symposium: Violence as Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge held at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad and Tobago.
The government of Trinidad and Tobago has welcomed the Heads of all Caribbean States and all have also expressed their pleasure and gratitude for being a participant in this Symposium. It is noted that the event holds immense importance for the region as it is dealing with increased criminal activities.
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre took it to social media and shared some information about the event. The post by the PM read, “For two days, Caribbean leaders and professionals will hold discussions on the theme “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge”.”
Furthermore, he stated that with the adoption of a public health approach to violent crime, what all will be embarking upon is the creation of a legacy of the Caribbean that is as much a safe and secure place for the children in the future as it was for us when all were children in the past.
While expressing his views towards the recommendations to be implemented in the upcoming future, PM Pierre said, “I welcome this symposium & ask that we move swiftly to implement the recommendations which we all will be putting forward here. We cannot afford otherwise.”
The Trinidad and Tobago government has been continuously sharing updates regarding the Regional Symposium. Recently, on April 18, the official account of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago – Dr Keith Rowley, informed that Prime Minister and Lead Head with responsibility for Crime and Security hosted the opening of the Regional Symposium: Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge held at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad on April 17, 2023.
It also stated that several CARICOM Leaders and other dignitaries of the region were in attendance.
