Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has shared four indisputable facts about the United Progressive Party (UPP), which “should not be forgotten by the general public.”
The first fact explained by the political party was from the years between 2004 and 2014. ABLP stated that under the opposition party, some of the migrants of the country were picked up and carted off to the Airport in an unlawful manner. They all were deported without a Court order or hearing.
The second fact they highlighted explained that the spokesperson of UPP abused the migrant communities without any cause.
The third fact was about the “Millennium Naturalisation Act 2004,” adopted on June 28, 2004. The law was focused on providing citizenship to the migrants who are residing in the nation from January 1, 2000. The campaign was only provided to migrants and was not granted to their family members, such as spouses and children. Furthermore, it blamed UPP for separating families.
Besides this, it informed about the introduction of a mechanism, the Immigration and Passport Act 2014, which was adopted in response to human rights abuses by UPP. This act allowed the people to raise their voices against any dispute to an Immigration Appeals Tribunal. It further claimed that it would always remind the UPP of its election promises.
In addition to this, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party also informed about the ABLP Policy Plans for migrations of the nation in the next level programme. The political party has stated that the application processing time for Citizenship will reduce to just 60 days, and the government will make sure that more personnel will be deployed so that the process is accelerated.
Furthermore, the Immigrations Appeals Tribunal, introduced by ABLP in answer to the UPP abuse of migrants, will be mobilised. The constitution will be amended, and post amendments, it will allow citizenship eligibility citizenship by great-grandchildren of Antiguan and Barbadian citizens, including persons who apply through citizenship by investment.
