PM Roosevelt Skerrit meets National Emergency officials, discusses Hurricane Beryl

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore met with members of the National Emergency Planning Organization as the island nation prepares for the possible effects of Hurricane Beryl.

They exchanged dialogues on the current conditions of the nation and the measures which can be undertaken in order to protect the country from the devastating effects of Hurricane.

PM Skerrit also met with the managers of the Dominica Water and Sewage Company and the Dominica Electricity Services Company with a vision to review emergency response plans as Hurricane Beryl approaches the Windward Islands.

As per the Dominica Meteorological Services, the Category 4 hurricane can result in causing the rainfall of 2-4 inches in the island nation with moderate to rough sea conditions in open water with waves up to 10ft.

Moreover, the leader of the nation stated that Dominica remains under a tropical storm watch and has asked all the citizens to be prepared for the natural calamity and take precautionary actions to fight against Hurricane Beryl. He also advised all the citizens of the nation to be alerted and listen to all the warning messages from the local authorities and emergency management officials ensuring their safety and security.

As per the National Hurricane Centre, Beryl is expected to be an extremely dangerous Category 4 Hurricane when it reaches the Windward Islands. Also, the Hurricane Warning is in effect for several other Caribbean nations as well including, Barbados, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

According to the information shared by the advisories of Hurricane Beryl, a potential hurricane-force wind can cause a life-threatening storm surge and damaging waves are anticipated when Beryl passes over areas of the Windward Islands. The highest risk of the core can be faced in St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada on Monday morning. Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are also expected across the Windward Islands.

Therefore, PM Skerrit has asked all its residents to be prepared for any dangerous situation and follow preventive measures.
