PM Pierre applauds NIC for reimagining Gold Card under Golden Citizen Program

Philip J Pierre lauded the National Insurance Corporation for reimagining the Gold Card that seeks to provide consumer discounts for their pensioners.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, lauded the National Insurance Corporation for reimagining the Gold Card that seeks to provide consumer discounts for their pensioners.

He urges all Government pensioners to take advantage of the Golden Citizen Program through the Retired Persons’ Association.

It is to be noted that till date, about 60+ businesses have provided the discounts. PM Pierre further extended a vote of thanks to all who have served the country.

“I encourage Government pensioners to take advantage of the programme through the Retired Persons’ Association. To the 60+ businesses which have provided the discounts, thank you for supporting those who have served our country”, the prime minister of Saint Lucia stated.

On behalf of the administration, he added that the retired, elderly, and vulnerable groups continue to be a priority for the government.

Notably, they are proposing measures due to global inflation, which acutely affects our pensioners, allowing for increases in line with public servants during negotiations with unions.

It is to be added in PM Pierre’s remarks that NIC has already given a 4.2% increase to all of its pensioners, and during the same time, they have given off payments of $500 and $600 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

He further extended support to the most vulnerable section of the Saint Lucia.

“We will continue to be a government of compassion and provide support, particularly to the most vulnerable amongst us”, the prime minister wrote.

The leader of Saint Lucia took to his official Facebook handle to share glimpses of the event. Many people reacted to his post with comments.

One person by the name of Fedora Letang wrote, “I thank God that we have a labour government under our prime minister Philip J Pierre so much love and compassion, especially for the senior citizens. I wish you God’s blessings that you continue to put your people and country first.”

Additionally, the National Insurance Corporation has announced the relaunch of the Golden Citizens Program to honour the NIC retirement pensioners on December 15, 2023.

The program has been partnered with the business community, which will provide them with discounts on goods and services.

This reimagined program was launched under the theme, “Celebrating Your Golden Years With Exclusive Rewards”, and it was held during a ceremony at the Finance Administrative Centre at the Pointe Seraphine on Friday.
