Roseau, Dominica: Minister of Tourism, Investment, International Transport and Maritime Initiative of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Denise Charles discussed the importance of the tourism sector with the students of Dominica State College Hospitality and Tourism on May 23, 2023.
The topic was discussed during a meeting in which Denise Charles was accompanied by PS Lisa Valmond.
The objective of the meeting was to inform the country’s young population about one of the most important sectors of the country – Tourism. “As the future leaders of Dominica, it’s vital that young people understand the role that tourism plays in our economy and the potential career opportunities that exist in the industry!” the Tourism Ministry of the nation mentioned.
The meeting was attended by many prominent ministers of the nation associated with the tourism sector. As per the update by the Ministry, also in attendance were CEO DDA Colin Piper, Destination Manager Kimberly King, CEO International Airport Samuel Johnson, Head and staff of the Tourism and Hospitality Faculty, and the Director of GEMS Hospitality Training Institute.
“We had spirited conversations on aspects of tourism throughout the meeting, including hospitality, marketing, our tourism pillars, the significance of the international airport, sustainable tourism, and more!” the Ministry of the Commonwealth of Dominica mentioned.
It concluded that it was the first of many engagements! “Stay Tuned Dominica’s Youth Tourism Ambassador Requirements will soon be released! We’re committed to empowering young people in Dominica to do their part in promoting tourism and contributing to the development of our country!” it appealed.
The tourism sector holds immense importance towards the economy and GDP of Dominica as it is one of the contributors towards it. The sector directly contributes to employment creation, development and upliftment of the infrastructure of the country and can also help in the conservation of the natural environment as Dominica focuses on eco-tourism.
