Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company, commonly known as JLR, announced the contribution of thirty thousand pounds to support the young talents of the African and Caribbean. The announcement was made by the company officials on Thursday, 12 September.

The commitment made by JLR is under the Amos Bursary programme. The programme will support youngsters in accessing several new educational and career opportunities. The programme will help 70 West Midlands students in achievinng their goals.

The Amos Bursary is a scholarship programme awarded to undergraduate students at UCL- London’s Global University. This is the second consecutive year that JLR is extending financial support to the Amos Bursary students of African and Caribbean backgrounds.

The total amount of investment as a charity made by JLR totals to sixty thousand pounds. Along with that, the employees of the company also dedicated 390 hours of their time as volunteers to provide coaching and career guidance to the students.

The active works by the company came under the School Partnership Programme by JLR. The programme is part of reimagine strategy to achieve net zero carbon by 2029. The initiative helped more than forty thousand students in the UK since last year.

The support is given to the talents to grow in the fields like digital and data roles, electrical and software engineering. The students are also supported in autonomous technologies and professional development in other diverse sectors.

The students are selected for financial assistance and support on the basis of socio‑economic criteria and their academic achievement. The potential candidates from underrepresented groups are given grants to advance in sectors close to the business’s manufacturing sites.

The Amos Bursary helps candidates from African and Caribbean backgrounds with educational resources and tuition, along with annual financial assistance. The students are also helped in the situation of emergencies and to overcome the constant challenges faced by them.

The development in terms of professional and personal characteristics through internships, workshop training, mentorships, and other career enhancing opportunities is also part of the charity programme by UCL.

JLR colleagues have been consistently supporting and participating in the initiative for the betterment of African and Caribbean students. The aim is clearly to prepare students for success and make them a fit for the corporate setting.

JLR is involved in the Amos Bursary as the first partner since 2023. The partnership was formalized to expand the reach of the initiative and expand to the Midlands. The partnership scored some significant results with the help of substantial funding by JLR.

The company also dedicated a team of four mentors to the Amos Bursary, who guides the students for 18 to 60 months and an engagement of two to six hours per month. The mentors help the students and ensure a meaningful impact on their professional and academic growth.

Reuben Cumberbatch, Transmission and Driveline Software Engineer said on the initiative, “The workshops and mentorship have been incredibly valuable. They not only helped me build the soft skills needed for the corporate world but also gave me the confidence to navigate professional environments with ease.”

He added, “My advice to upcoming professionals is to take full advantage of these opportunities and always be open to learning and networking. These are instrumental in shaping your career and opening doors to new possibilities.”
