“Of course, words can do little to help at times like this, but please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers right now” he continued. Dr Chang addressed the people saying that the government intends to support the community and see that justice prevails.
The Minister of National Security also said that there has been some improvement in Clarendon in the recent past, as it is one of the parishes that recorded a decrease in violent crimes. “Police have done well in Clarendon; there is 39 percent fewer murders in the parish in comparison to last year,” Dr Chang said. Still, events like this addresses the fact that the job related to eradication of crime never ends.
The incident has elicited demands for enhancing protective mechanisms and better approaches to address the menace of gang incidences especially in Clarendon and Jamaica in general. Local law enforcement is not relenting in the hunt of the culprits and investigations are ongoing to establish the reason behind the attack as well as the individuals behind it.
As the nation wakes up to this latest act of violence, the government is calling on the public to assist the police in the quest to maintain peace and retrack the community back into order.
Developments have been made, but the way to safer and more secure communities is still filled with challenges. The government, with the support from other stakeholders especially the Police and other members in the society must go on exerting efforts to end these scourges and have a better nation for everyone.
