Jamaica removes ‘no-movement days’ on Sundays

Government has announced that there will be no longer ‘no-movement days’ on Sundays till December 10, 2021. While as per new COVID-19 guidelines, the curfew hours will be from 8 pm to 5 am the following morning(for every day of the week).

Kingston, Jamaica: Government has announced that there will be no longer ‘no-movement days’ on Sundays till December 10, 2021. While as per new COVID-19 guidelines, the curfew hours will be from 8 pm to 5 am the following morning(for every day of the week).

The amended guidelines will be in effect from Friday, October 29, 2021.

The health ministry further informed that the existing ‘work from the home’ directive in the public sector will remain in place until December 9, 2021. The ministry asked the Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies to put in place COVID-19 measures to determine the COVID vaccination status of their staff in the public sector in order to foster risk assessment and planning.

No changes have been made by the Jamaican government in the measures related to burials and funerals, which means that the presence of a maximum of 20 people is allowed at the funeral services (including the mourners, clergy, and support personnel). As per existing measures, burials can take place between Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, with the presence of not more than 15 persons.

On the other hand, not more than ten persons are permitted in general public gatherings, while weddings can only be hosted with the presence of a maximum of 50 persons.

Not more than 50 persons are allowed to attend the annual or extraordinary general meetings physically.

Maximum 50 individuals are permitted at the place of worship. No crusades, conferences, or conventions are allowed. Physical attendance at the events hosted by the public entities is limited to a maximum of 50 individuals.

According to the statistics, so far, there are 88,480 confirmed cases of COVID-19, whereas around 2184 persons scummed to the deadliest virus. While around 9 health departments across the island nation have begun house-to-house vaccination.

The healthcare teams, including public health nurses and community health aides from – Hanover, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Trelawny, Westmoreland, St Ann, St Mary, Portland and St Thomas, have been stationed to communities throughout Jamaica to administer the COVID-19 vaccines to shut-ins, disabled and the elderly.
