Holi Special: UNC Leader encourages to eradicate setbacks from nation

Trinidad and Tobago: The India’s Daughter and UNC’S Leader-Kamla Persad celebrated India’s most joyous festival: Holi. This time the celebration of Holi is procurement over vaccines because of the leader’s efforts in Trinidad and Tobago.

She stated, “Phagwa or Holi has been a long-standing, ancient celebration that was observed predominantly in the Hindu community in Trinidad and Tobago.”

“It is a festival that involves the colourful powder or abir that we paint each other with during a joyous celebration of good overcoming evil,” she added.

Additionally, she stated, Although Phagwa has its roots in Hinduism, it has grown to be a celebration that involves all citizens, a celebration that transcends all boundaries.

The festival of colours is now woven into all Trinbagonians’ culture as we have always embraced each other as one people.

She stated, “With Phagwa comes the beautiful colours, the happiness in our friends and family, the laughter of playing children, and many other fond memories we can all think of.”

Furthermore, she added, I am sure some of you all remember your young days of “Playing Phagwa” on Sunday only to then attend school the next day with fingers and sometimes even your teeth stained with the colours of an eventful day.

“This year, with COVID-19 and the ongoing health regulations to keep each other safe, the usual large-scale celebrations have been postponed. That does not mean all celebrations are off. We can all still observe and practice what Phagwa/Holi has always been about – Good overcoming evil. This is something we can all practice regardless of COVID-19,” she added.

She added, “I also congratulate all groups striving to keep the essence of Phagwa/Holi alive despite these challenges, such as the Maha Sabha and the National Phagwa Council. Their dedication to keeping the traditions alive such as the active chowtal groups must indeed be commended.”

“Today, as I wish everyone a Happy Phagwa/Holi, I ask you to keep in mind today’s core significance that good always triumphs. Let us all strive to be agents of interest in a world that needs more goodness,” she added.

“As crime, joblessness, and the abandonment of our citizens who are stranded abroad continue to occur under this present Government, it may be not easy to believe that goodness will triumph. However, we can still use this opportunity to commit and unite better Trinbago despite these setbacks,” UNC Leader added.

“As you celebrate in your small groups, as I know many of you will, I urge you to stay safe and abide by all COVID regulations to keep you and your family healthy,” she added.
