Health Minister Bostic pays his deepest condolences on death of COVID-19 related patients

Barbados: Hon Jeffrey Bostic pays his deepest condolences to the grieving family of an 80-year-old Trinidadian resident.

According to information, Minister of Health & Wellness, Lt. Col. Hon Jeffrey Bostic, offers his deepest sympathies to the grieving family of an 80 year old Trinidadian national, with whom coronavirus deaths in Barbados rose to 24.

The CARICOM resident passed away on February 13 at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility, where she was a sufferer. As with many previous coronavirus cases, the elderly lady underwent comorbidities. Her death came at a time when there was also an increment in positive test outcomes.

On the matter of the usual coronavirus update for February 13, 1222, tests were performed by the Best dos Santos Laboratory. Of these, there were some 207 new positive-tested results, including 97 male and 110 female.

Three of the 207 new positive coronavirus results are of individuals who would previously have been sent to Harrison Point for assessment to decide whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were newly positive or had coronavirus in the past and were no longer contagious.

Additionally, a further 46 individuals were sent to HP for evaluation, while six persons were released from isolation and 23 people were released.

Of the 204 other cases, Barbados classification was held by 198 persons, and the other 6 held a non-Barbados association.

The test outcomes cover a range of dates, and 112 of the positive results are for the period February 1 to 7. Test results have been slow recently because of the inability to obtain a critical reagent.

This required lab technicians to use standard extraction, which made the process longer and produced a new backlog. A supply of the critical reagent is now in Barbados, and the laboratory is in the process of making the backlog and becoming up to date.

Till now, Barbados has recorded 2,268 confirmed cases – 1,003 females and 1,265 males – and 1,639 persons have redeemed. The public health laboratory has finished 114,028 tests since February 2020.
