Guyana: Prez Irfaan Ali congratulates Nicolette Fernandez for winning World Masters squash title for first time
Guyana: Nicolette Fernandez, the local squash queen, has created history and has become the first Guyanese to secure the World Masters squash title.

Guyana: Nicolette Fernandez, the local squash queen, has created history and has become the first Guyanese to secure the World Masters squash title.
The Guyanese athlete defeated South African Slyoli Waters by 3-0 and clinched the Women’s 35-plus division title at the World Masters Squash Championship in Poland.
Fernandes defeated the South African player in straight sets – 11-6, 11-5, and 11-5 and became the first player from Guyana to win a World Masters squash accolade.
The athlete has won six women’s senior CASA titles. The prizes clinched by the history creator are the 2006 CAC Games, 2010 South American Games, and a historic 2022 Pan Am Senior Squash Championship title, among many other silver and bronze medal acquisitions.
The President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, congratulated the athlete through his social media handle and wished her luck for the upcoming tournaments. Furthermore, he asked the Guyanese general public to come forward and congratulate Fernandes.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to Nicolette Fernandes on winning the Gold medal at the World Masters Over-35 Squash Championships. All Guyana join me in heralding this grand achievement,” the congratulatory message of President Ali read.
He added, “I wish her continued success and thank her for being such a fine and enduring example for our young people.”
The message by President Ali further stated that Nicolette has turned out yet another stellar performance and, in so doing, has secured personal success and brought national glory to our country. She remains one of Guyana’s most inspirational sporting heroines.
