Guyana Police Force hosted a Spelling Bee competition held at the Learning and Resource Centre (LRC), Mabaruma Township, North West District (NWD), Region No. 1.

Guyana: Guyana Police Force hosted a Spelling Bee competition held at the Learning and Resource Centre (LRC), Mabaruma Township, North West District (NWD), Region No. 1. The Competition represented one of many activities held by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in celebration of its 183rd Anniversary, and it featured participants from two top Schools, North West and Hosororo Secondary.
Police Sergeant 17810 Ross and Ronald Cox (MP) officiated the activity. Senior Superintendent H. Sawh welcomed all the participants, Distinguished Guests, Judges, and other attendees and highlighted that the Competition was intended to promote learning among the Students as they competed to represent not only their respective Schools but the Region and Guyana as a whole. He added that the Competition was not just about winning but encouraging teamwork.
In her brief remarks, the Regional Education Officer, Chiveon Bovell-Success, noted that the Competition organized by Region No. 1 Police Administration synchronized with the Education Department observance of Education Month, 2022. She encouraged all participants to maximize every opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills.
The Feature address was executed by the Regional Democratic Council Chairman, Brentnol Ashley, who joined in congratulating the Guyana Police Force on celebrating its 183rd Anniversary, and for promoting such activities as Spelling Bee Competitions which are stimulating to learning.
The Competition was moderated by the Headteacher of Mabaruma Primary School, Charles, and judged by Melanie Torres and Natasha Benjamin, who are both Teachers from Hosororo and North West Secondary Schools, respectively.
At the conclusion of the event, North West Secondary School emerged as the winner, and the Best Speller Award was given to Leanie Hernandez of the said School.
Deputy Commander, Deputy Superintendent A. Fredericks moved the vote of thanks as he expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Commander and ranks of Region No. 1, and by extension the Commissioner of Police, to all present, among whom was the Mayor, Chris Phang.
