Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of Guyana has recently shared a glimpse of the recently hosted training session on ‘Anti-money laundering and countering the financing of tourism’. The training was organised and hosted by the Department of Co-operative Societies (COOP), a unit of the ministry.

“Several Friendly Societies in Central Georgetown, Region Four (4) benefited today from an Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) training organised by the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Co-operative Societies (COOP),” the Labour Ministry informed through social media.

According to the update shared, the workshop, which is being conducted at the Guyana Police Credit Union Building, will include various short presentations or panels to help increase the societies’ compliance with this statute, followed by open discussions.

Presentations on Guyana’s AML/CFT Regime, Preventing the Abuse of Non-Profit Organisations for Terrorist Financing/NPOs Obligations, Risk Profiling Survey, and other topics were covered, and the update informed the general public of Guyana.

The ministry further outlined that the workshop was attended by representatives from the Guyana Cancer Society, Amerindians People Association, Youth in Focus, Guyana International Relief Organisation, Atlantic Garden Home Owners Association, Guyana Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society, Swan Empowerment Centre, Giftland Charity Foundation, Purpose, Agricola Green Environment Youth Foundation, Saints Hockey Club, and We Gat A Yuh Bac.

It added that Rommel St Hill, AML/CFT Officer, Attorney General’s Office, Yonette Scarville, Attorney-at-Law, Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Senior COOP Officers Suresh Jaigobin and Winetth Collymore, among other officials, were present.
