Guyana: As part of the government’s commitment to expand health facilities across the country, and to assure that all residents have access to quality medical care services, the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, on April 12, 2022 (Tuesday), commissioned the refurbished Nappi Health Post in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
The project has been constructed for $13.6 million; the fully-equipped facility will service approximately 908 residents in the Nappi village and other surrounding villages in the Region.
Dr Anthony, in his feature address, announced that the Ministry is moving to operationalise the concept of telehealth in Region Nine, which will facilitate the distribution of health-related services and information via telecommunication technologies.
“We will use the internet to be able to communicate with the doctors in Georgetown who will work with the Community Health Workers to be able to make a diagnosis and offer treatment to patients on the spot”, Dr Anthony highlighted.
The renovated health post is now fully staffed with two Community Health Workers who are equipped to offer maternal child health services and outpatient services.
The community leaders and residents said they can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they no longer have to travel to Lethem Regional Hospital to access health care services.
Earlier, the Annai Hospital and Para Bara Health Posts in Region Nine received two new All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to boost health care delivery at the health institutions across the hinterland region on the same day (April 12).
Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, today handed over keys to the vehicles to Esron Jerome, Community Health Workers of Para Bara Health Post and Medex Lenski Henry – Regional Supervisor of the Maternal Child Health Programme, in the presence of Dr Cerel McWatt, Regional Health Officer (RHO). The handing over ceremony was organised in the compound of the Conference Hall in Central Lethem.
