Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of Guyana announced that around two hundred and thirty-eight (238) Guyanese youth are now better prepared with the essential knowledge and skills to prepare them for employment, following a graduation ceremony at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Training Centre, on the morning of August 1, 2023.
According to the update, Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, SSHE Manager of ExxonMobil, Adam Cantu, Executive Director of SSYDR Inc, Magda Griffith-France and others were in attendance.
This was made possible by a collaboration between Specialists in Sustained Youth Development and Research Inc. (SSYDR) and ExxonMobil Guyana on the job-readiness summer camp initiative.
Accordingly, participants from Regions Two, Three, Four, Six, and Ten received one month of training in areas such as literacy, job preparedness, workplace safety and health, financial fitness, and entrepreneurship.
In addition to this, the Ministry of Labour claimed that SSYDR Inc. also ensures that they have the necessary documents for employment with the help of the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA), which is in charge of matching qualified people with existing vacancies as well as canvassing for job vacancies for potential job seekers.
Earlier, on the same day, the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA) and Ministry of Labour spoke to several potential job seekers and employers this morning as part of its Sensitization Campaign aimed at educating people on employment services.
The exercise also aims to increase awareness of the Ministry’s National Job Bank website and encourage people to use it. Yolanda Grant, CRMA’s Chief Recruitment Officer, conducted the exercise, which began at Plaisance Bus Park and ended at the East La Penitence Market.
Accordingly, the department intended to execute a similar exercise in Region Three (3) next week.
The CRMA is mandated to match suitably qualified persons to existing vacancies, canvass for job vacancies for possible placement for jobseekers, maintain an accurate record of notified vacancies and provide advice, career guidance and counselling to those seeking employment.
