Govt of St Lucia prohibits sale of Alcohol 

St Lucia: The Government of Saint Lucia declares the suspension of liquor licenses.

On Wednesday, 20th January 2021, the government of St Lucia will prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol at supermarkets, minimarts, grocery shops, gas stations, restaurants and bars, and other licensed operators.

The liquor license suspension will be for 21 days and is indicated as a measure to address the spread of lethal coronavirus in light of the significant rise in the number of active COVID-19 cases on the island.

The government is following guidance from a National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC)/Stakeholder’s meeting held on Tuesday, 19th January 2021; prior decisions to address the upsurge in COVID-19 will be communicated to the public.

A blast of COVID-19 in St Lucia

The ministry of health & wellness received confirmation of 57 new cases of COVID-19 in St Lucia. This makes the total number of COVID-19 cases from 656 to 713 in St Lucia.

Health Ministry notified that they had tested 216 people in the last 24 hours, from which 57 tested positive and 159 tested negatives, and tests conducted at the Ezra Long Laboratory. With these new cases, the total number of cases is diagnosed in the country to 713.

A Facebook user commented, “St Lucia has become a place for the White privileged and the tourists. Has the government asked the people what their input is regarding what protocols would be effective? Why does the public not have a say since we’re the ones that vote these fools in.”

Another resident commented, “Some St Lucian’s are so hard-headed. My god, look at the state of our country. Ask them to wear mask no. Some say COVID-19 never exist. Some are just delusional. I’m so tired of their foolishness.”
