The Barbuda International Airport welcomed its first international flight, Gulfstream G650ER on Friday, 25th October, 2024 from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, United States of America.
The first international flight in the newly opened Barbuda International Airport marks a significant milestone for the island nation. The arrival of this flight shed light on the commitment of the authorities towards solidifying the appeal of the destination as a modern and international-standard gateway.
With the arrival of Gulfstream G650ER, the Barbuda International Airport received its first flight from outside the region. As per the details, the flight landed in Barbuda at mid-morning of Friday and departed at mid-afternoon for West Palm Beach in Florida.

The Barbuda International Airport was officially opened on 3rd October, 2024. The airport which is soon to be renamed the Burton-Nibbs International Airport is anticipated to play a significant role in enhancing the overall economic conditions of the island nation.
In its first phase, the airport has already created several job opportunities for Barbudans, addressing the unemployment gap of the country. Also, several additional training programs are underway in the airport which will play a significant role in providing the local residents with valuable skills, aiming to contribute to the growing aviation and tourism sector of the island nation.
This project will further proceed with the construction of a state-of-the-art terminal and an extended runway. These constructions are expected to enhance the capacity of the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and increased passenger traffic.
While shedding light on these improvements and enhancements, the authorities moted that these improvements align with their broader vision of bringing sustainable economic development and elevating the tourism sector to greater heights.
The CEO of the tourism Authority of Antigua and Barbuda called this an international airport, a game changer for Barbuda. He added that this airport will attract the luxury traveller and private jet owners from around the world, increasing the numbers of the arrival of international visitors.
He added that they are looking forward to showcase the beauty, pink sand beaches, eco-experiences, wellness attributes and culture of the island nation to all the visitors.
