Currently 103 climate-resilient homes under construction in Dominica: PM Skerrit
By this year, the Dominican government expects the construction of up to 1000 homes.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit underscored the ongoing Housing Recovery Project. He noted that 420 homes would be rebuilt under the project, out of which 103 homes are currently under construction.
The Dominican government initiated this housing recovery project to rebuild climate-resilient homes for the citizens who lost their homes after Hurricane Maria 2017 hit the island. PM Skerrit made the remarks on the recent episode of the Annou Pale on Sunday.
By this year, the Dominican government expects the construction of up to 1000 homes. He asserted, “We will move ahead with developments in Paix Bouche, the Roseau Valley, Woodfordhill, Eggleston, Soufriere, Scotts Head, Pointe Michel and Canefield, Grand Bay and for the people of Dubique”.
The government, till now, handed over the keys of climate-resilient homes to the residents of Cochrane, Kalinago Territory, Castle Bruce and Colihaut. PM Skerrit highlighted that 12 houses were handed over to the citizens under the government’s housing project the previous week.
He added, “We touched the lives of families from Marigot, Yampiece, Goodwill, Giraudel, Portsmouth, Sineku, Delices and Warner. This project dates back to my negotiations with the World Bank less than a month after Hurricane Maria for a EC$110 million financial package to restore livelihoods in the agriculture and housing sectors”.
PM Skerrit led-administration pledges to make Dominica the worlds’ first climate-resilient nation, of which the housing project is a part.
Dominican government continues to boost the health sector. PM Skerrit emphasized in Vieille Case, Bellevue Chopin, Portsmouth, Marigot and Mahaut, health and wellness centres opened by his administration. Meanwhile, more new facilities will open in Newtown, Bagatelle, Penville, Anse de Mai, Soufriere and Colihaut.
“We are addressing needs of patients at the community level, with a focus on prevention and care”.
A fully equipped cardiology department opened at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, allowing for surgical procedures to be performed on the island. An MRI machine was commissioned, enhancing diagnostic capacity at the hospital.
Dominican government also commemorated the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, which was a most significant milestone for the islands’ health system.
