Saint Lucia: The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) unveiled the calendar of activities for this year’s commemoration of emancipation under the theme “Enkindling Our Consciousness”.
The CDF, event organizers, and partner agencies say the 2022 Emancipation observance will signal the beginning of a renewed consciousness amongst Saint Lucians.
The observance of emancipation will span the entire months of July, August and September. The primary objective is to create a heightened sense of awareness through education programmes and activities.
Minister of Creative Industries and Culture, Dr Ernest Hilaire, said the observance would be more than a public holiday, as it will capture the essence of the struggle and survival of our ancestors.
Executive Director of the Cultural Development Foundation, Raymona Henry-Wynn, said that at the heart of the commemoration is who we have become as a people.
Among the agencies partnering with the Cultural Development Foundation is the Repatriation Committee, whose representative, Earl Bousquet, commended the commitment of Prime Minister Philip J Pierre and former Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony for giving a right of place to such a commemoration.
The launch event took place in a virtual format. It was broadcasted on the National Television Network (NTN) and Calabash TV, as well as via the Facebook pages of key partner agencies.
