Barbados Royals faced defeat for the fourth time in a row as Trinbago Knight Riders triumphed by 30 runs in Match 28 of Caribbean Premier League 2024, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, Trinidad. With this victory, the Trinbago Knight Riders stay in contention for the top two spots, defeating the Royals who are to play the Eliminator.
The match began with the Barbados Royals winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. After the Trinbago Knight Riders saw the early departure of the openers, Nicholas Pooran emerged as a ray of hope for the fans playing the game with a strike rate of 180. Unfortunately, the hope didn’t last long as Pooran got caught out by Quinton de Kock, scoring just 27 runs in 15 balls, in a tricky delivery by Naveen-ul-Haq. Pooran although showcased a tremendous showdown hitting 4 fours and 1 six, the outcome didn’t come out to his favour.
Meanwhile, Keiron Pollard once again played the captain’s knock, hitting 4 sixes and scored 42 runs in just 27 balls. He played a huge role in leading the team towards a competitive total of 175 runs with the loss of 7 wickets. This total score was also fueled by solid contributions from Carty, scoring 32 runs and Russell, playing knock of 31 runs in just 12 balls.
When the Barbados Royals came to bat, their innings just couldn’t keep up the pace, as they lost two early wickets. Although, Wickham and Alick did put up a great partnership, but kept the strike rate quite slow as following their dismissal, the run rate required shot up to over 12.
David Miller once again tried to show a little spark they needed but he also got caught out by Keacy Carty in Waqar Salamkheil’s delivery. Miller once again played a massive knock at a strike rate of 200, scoring 30 runs in 15 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours.
The bowling section for the Trinbago Knight Riders remained excellent throughout the innings. Hosein began the stride by taking two wickets in the Powerplay. After that, Waqar had a decent outing in the middle overs. On the other hand, Jordan and Hinds proved to be deadly for the opponent team in the death overs, taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
With this game, Trinbago Knight Riders are back to their winning ways and the Barbados Royals suffer their 4th consecutive defeat. The skipper of the winning team, Pollard extended gratitude to all the fans and the home crowd for their support and expressed a desire of winning the trophy for them.
