Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) has announced that the ABAA 2023 Development Meet Series was a great success. It stated that “Just like the 1st edition, the 2nd of the ABAA 2023 Development Meet Series was not short of exciting performances.”
According to the update by the association, athletes aged U19 up to the open category all put on their best performances. The standout performer of the meet, however, was debutant Naomi McDonald of the Paramount Performance Club.
“The 15-year-old athlete shot putter heaved her way into a spot on the 2023 Carifta Games team with a putt of 13.44m, well above the 12.10m standard,” it informed.
Furthermore, it outlined that the Jennings Secondary School student now joins towering sprinter – Lanica Locker – on the plane to Nassau, Bahamas, on the Easter weekend. Lanica ran an impressive 23.92 over 200m in the first of the development meets.
ABAA also informed that the Development Meet series continues on February 5th with the 3rd edition. Come on out to YASCO and support the athletes. There’s a contribution of $5 collected at the gate with proceeds to fundraising efforts.
“Track and field were back with a bang at yasco sports complex today with some spectacular performances from a few athletes. None was more outstanding than that of LaNica Locker of the PSE Track Club and Ottos Comprehensive School, who stormed to victory in the u20 Female 200m in 23.92s. Not only was that time a personal best for the sprinter, but she also dipped below the 2023 Carifta Games Qualifying standard of 24.00s for that 200m event and became our FIRST qualifier for the 2023 Carifta Games in the Bahamas. The Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association would like to congratulate Locker on an outstanding performance and wish her all the best throughout the season,” it added.
Furthermore, it extended congrats and stated, “Congratulations are also in order for coach Heather Samuel Daley and Tedd Daley of Power Speed and Endurance (PSE) Track Club.”
