Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister of twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, condemned the Democracy assault in Brazil on January 9, 2023 (Monday). The statement was released by the Office of the Prime Minister after Congress in Brazil was stormed by the supporters of the former leader of the country – Jair Bolsonaro.

While sharing his concern, Prime Minister Gaston Browne stated, “The will of the electoral must be fully respected as the Presidential election, found to be free and fair by Observers from international organizations, including the Organization of American States.”

He further stressed that such attacks on the government institutions should not be tolerated by the government as well as people of the Hemisphere. A group of people cannot assault the democracy of a country.

He furthermore said that the people and government of Antigua and Barbuda will always support the democratically-elected President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his government. He added that in the coming days, this position will be clear at the United Nations and the OAS.

The actions of the right-wing groups of Brazil was denounced by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. The group has been gaining a lot of disliking after surrounding the Presidential Palace and the Supreme Court.

On the national aspects, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has rung the bell and announced that Antigua and Barbuda will see general elections 2023 on January 18. The contestants have filed nominations on December 26, 2022 (Monday). According to many reports, Prime Minister Gaston Browne will emerge as a winner and will be elected as the Prime Minister of the country. Majority of Antiguans and Barbadians have stood in support of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).

Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has been launching various ideas plans for the upliftment and growth of the people, especially youth, of the country.
