2 GDF ranks arrested for trafficking 154lbs of narcotics in service vehicle

Two officers from Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were arrested for the offence of possessing 22 bulky bags containing 154 lbs of Narcotics. This incident is reported to have taken place on Thursday.

Georgetown, Guyana: Two officers from Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were arrested for the offence of possessing 22 bulky bags containing 154 lbs of Narcotics. This incident is reported to have taken place on Thursday.

As per the details, the two GDF ranks were nabbed during a joint intelligence-led Police operation conducted by officers from Special Branch and Regional Division 4 ‘B.’ According to the details, both the officers were in a motor vehicle belonging to GDF when their vehicle were stopped by the police along the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, in the vicinity of the Prairie Hotel.

The officers were identified as 31-year-old GDF Sergeant Colvis Sam from Turkeyen, who was reported to be driving the vehicle. Meanwhile, the other occupant has been identified as 42-year-old GDF Staff Sergeant Adisa Higgins from Linden. Both men are stationed at GDF’s Camp Ayanganna Headquarters.

When the police intercepted the vehicle, they held a search and found 22 bulky bags. While conducting the search of the bag, they discovered a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be Cannabis from inside the bag.

The two GDF ranks were later told of the offence of trafficking in narcotics and cautioned. They were arrested and taken to the Regional Police Division 4’B’ Headquarters, where the authorities weighed the suspected Cannabis, which amounted to 154 lbs.

Following the incident, the Guyana Defence Force released a statement where they assured the citizens and stated that they are investigating an incident involving the transporting of Mariuana in a service vehicle by two Senir Non- Commissioned Officers, Staff Sergeant Adisa Higgins and Sergeant Colvis Sam.

The Defence Force promised to maintain the highest standards of conduct among its ranks and does not accept any behaviour that undermines the trust and confidence reposed in the Force by the Public. They added that GDF is completely collaborating with GPF to address this issue.

The GDF assured to remain steadfast in their mission with a vision to protect and serve the people of Guyana with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
