Trinidad and Tobago: The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced that schools are scheduled to re-open on November 29, 2022 (Tuesday), except in cases where clean-up operations are ongoing as well as accessibility is compromised. “In such cases, parents are advised directly through the school’s Principal,” the statement by the ministry outlined.
The MoE reminded the parents to be vigilant and takes all necessary precautions in the areas that are affected by flooding as children return to school.
The associated authorities announced the closure of the school after heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The schools, islandwide, remained closed on November 28, 2022 (Monday); while announcing the closure, the Ministry of Education stated, “As a safety precaution and seeing the weather conditions prevailing over the island country over the last few hours, all schools in Trinidad will be closed on Monday, November 28, 2022.”
This announcement was made public after the flood alert, and the weather alert was at Alert #3 and Alert #4, respectively. As per the meteorological department, Riverine flood alert #3 is at an orange level in effect, and adverse weather alert #4 is at a yellow level effect.
According to the department, the weather on Monday night was relatively settled but with some lingering light to moderate showers in varying areas and the medium to high chance (50% – 70%) of a heavy shower or thunderstorm favouring, but not confined to, Trinidad.
The department further estimated that the nation would witness partly cloudy periods becoming cloudy sometimes with light to moderate showers and the medium to high chance (50% – 70%) of a heavy shower or thunderstorm favouring, but not confined to Trinidad on Tuesday.
Furthermore, it outlined that in The Leewards, Monday night and Tuesday are mostly fair but with partly cloudy periods producing brisk showers with seas level at Moderate.
