St Kitts and Nevis: The St Kitts Music Festival (SKMF) will return this summer. The Music Festival will be returned to the island country under the Ministry of Tourism and the St Kitts Tourism Authority’s strategy to boost the stay-over visitors and to witness an increase in the capacity of incoming aircraft.
On Tuesday, while addressing press conference, Minister of Tourism, Lindsay Grant stated that the authorities of St Kitts and Nevis have been working tirelessly to bring the tourism sector back. He further added that the authorities had been engaged in every possible effort which would help in the creation of a welcoming and secured environment when the event is held in June 2022.
Minister of Tourism further summed up the strategy’s goal as “getting heads in our beds,” as the promotional activities have been looking to make capital on the “pent up demand” for travel by persons living in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, according to St Kitts and Nevis government.
Tourism Minister Grant said, “The St Kitts Music Festival will be hosted safely from June 23 to June 25. To successfully host the festival, the Ministry of Tourism and the St. Kitts Music Festival Committee, the (National) COVID-19 Task Force and the Ministry of Health are working together.”
He further highlighted that the health authorities have successfully dealt with the four waves of COVID-19 and have effectively hosted the two massive events – international events with the 2021 Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament last September, amid the pandemic.
However, similar best practices and updated guidelines will be used by the authorities while planning for the festival.
He further stated that the main objective behind the organisation of the event is to generate revenue during the slow period of the year “with the usual decrease in our summer cruise traffic added to the hiatus of our seasonal flights, this event is key to maintaining and rebuilding momentum”.
The Music Festival will return to St Kitts and Nevis after being cancelled twice – in 2020 as well as 2021, because of the global pandemic – COVID-19.
