Saint Lucia: PM Philip J Pierre addresses Climate Change Summit 2023

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia – Philip J Pierre, is currently participating in the United Nations General Assembly’s 78th session. On September 20, 2023, Prime Minister Pierre addressed the Assembly and expressed his concern over the climate crisis during the Climate Change Summit.
The update regarding this was shared by the Prime Minister through his official social media post. He stated that he is grateful on behalf of the Caribbean community. PM Philip Pierre also outlined that being the lead head for climate change, it was his responsibility to express climate-related concerns of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
While bringing this into the public domain, he outlined, “As the Lead Head for Climate Change, I had the opportunity to deliver CARICOM: Caribbean Community’s statement at the Climate Change Summit at the UN.”
Furthermore, he highlighted that the countries in the Caribbean region have been investing their time and efforts in building a climate-resilient country. The nations have been building and working hard to construct strong climate resiliency, according to the Prime Minister.
PM Philip J Pierre outlined, “Our member states are leading the way in advancing adaptation and resilience initiatives; we continue to strengthen our renewable energy transitions and efforts to combat coastal erosion, sea-level rise and fresh water and agriculture challenges.”
Through his official social media platform, the PM noted, “However, this deepening climate crisis cannot continue to receive a response from major emitters that amounts to a reckless.”
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre and his meetings with other Ministers:
During this official visit, Prime Minister Pierre has been engaging and interacting with the Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Indonesia and Taiwan. He also met with the Saint Lucian diaspora and thanked them for their dedication and commitment towards their homeland.
When PM Pierre did reach the USA, who is the interim PM of Saint Lucia:
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Pierre left his home country to attend the 78 UNGA on September 17, 2023, and will return on September 27, after attending the session till September 26. In the absence of the Prime Minister, Deputy PM Ernest Hilaire will be the acting PM of Saint Lucia.
