Saint Lucia: The Ministry of Agriculture has been collaborating with the Soufriere Marine Management Agency (SMMA) to address water quality issues in Soufriere’s watershed and bay through strengthening policies, monitoring water quality, and public sensitization.
The recently-held Water Quality Awareness Public Sensitization Fair brought together many sector agencies to demonstrate the effects of water quality on their organizations and the benefits of good water quality to students and the general public.
Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere, Emma Hippolyte emphasized the importance of community involvement in water quality protection as it directly impacts their individual lives.
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Alfred Prospere said the onus is on the public to take time to consider how important water resources are and take action to protect water quality as it directly impacts agricultural production.
He added that initiatives to strengthen water quality would continue as the ministry proceeds with a series of actions to aid Saint Lucia’s natural resource preservation efforts.
