PM Gaston Browne holds productive meeting with UK High Commissioner

St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda – Gaston Browne, had a fruitful discussion with the High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Scott Furssedonn-Wood, on August 22, 2023 (Tuesday).

The High Commission of the United Kingdom in Barbados and Eastern Caribbean expressed gratitude and mentioned that the High Commissioner Scott-Furssedonn wished, “It is always great to visit Antigua and Barbuda.”

“High Commissioner Scott Furssedonn-Wood made an official visit to Antigua and Barbuda, where he met with Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne,” the HC of the UK outlined.

According to the official update, Prime Minister Browne outlined that Britain has always stood with the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and has helped the small Caribbean nation grow and develop. It highlighted that Antigua has been receiving huge support and assistance from Great Britain to host the United Nations’ fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The official update by the High Commission of the United Kingdom in Antigua and Barbuda read, “During the visit, PM Browne expressed gratitude to Great Britain for supporting Antigua and Barbuda in hosting the United Nations’ fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), set for May 2024 in the twin-island nation.”

Reportedly, High Commissioner Scott used the opportunity to reassure PM Browne that the October 2023 implementation of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system will not affect Antigua and Barbuda immediately upon implementation.

In addition to this, he also congratulated the PM on the recent completion of the World’s Toughest Row – Pacific by Team Antigua and Barbuda Island Girls and the historic Virgin Galactic space flight by Antiguan mother-daughter duo Keisha Schahaff and Anastasia Meyers.

Along with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda – Gaston Browne, and High Commission of United Kingdom – Scott-Wood, this meeting was also attended by Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda – Lindsy Thompson.
