Roseau, Dominica: Vince Henderson, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International business, Trade and Energy presented the detailed insights on the Geothermal power plant 2023 Ltd. during the parliament assembly.

He started his address by mentioning that this step will take a step closer to resolution and highlighted that the country signed the agreement for Geothermal Plant on December 5, 2023 which is the subsidiary of technologies incorporated by Nevada, United States which is a place where most of the geothermal plants of the US are seen.

Providing the details, he mentioned that the agreement was signed in Dubai during COP 28. Where, two agreements were signed, one of which is the concession agreement which provides the rights to Dominica Geothermal power plant 2023. These state the rights to explore the resources and to construct the power plan to operate and maintain the plant for over 25 years.

Considerably, he highlighted the primary goal for the introduction of this plant that is to provide the best deal to the consumers and not to make money. This states the Government’s role in making the country the better place for people to live in.

Looking back to past times, he shed light on the actions that were taken by the country, Dominica, since 1950. Even, he stated that the country has taken the lead in utilizing the natural resources for the generation of electricity for hydro power plants. Moreover, he said that Dominica has always demonstrated his ambition to pursue geothermal power.

Connecting to this, he added that the Dominica Labor Party has a great tradition of moving Dominica towards the direction. He highlighted that in 1974, the liberal administration took bold steps for an act of parliament to pursue geothermal power and this step is now taken as part of keeping the tradition.

Also, the Minister Vince Henderson while addressing, shifted the focus on the earlier suggestion given to Dominica for the Geothermal plant. He mentioned that on getting to know this, he researched well and run out of it.

However, Saint Lucia signed the agreement at that time with UNEC and still is saddened to sign. Even till now, the country has not come out of what this agreement cost them. And this is simply because the region wanted to be like Dominica.

Probing ahead, he notably added that Dominica has invested 55 Million US Dollars on the plant and interestingly, 50% of the amount is the grant.

“I am confident that this is the best thing for the Dominican people that we can ensure that we can reduce the cost of electricity,” said Minister Vince Henderson.
