Manipur, India: Renowned Manipuri folk musician Mangka Mayanglambam will go to Switzerland and France from April 11 to 18.

Mangka will play at three venues in Switzerland and two in France, according to a press release from the MaolKeki Foundation. The tour will also feature a joint performance by renowned Swiss Alphorn musician Enrico Lenzin and Franco-German choreographer Angela Sofia Sterzer, who teaches Manipuri dance in Paris.
The “Alphorn” is a classic Swiss wind instrument, and the “Pena” is a single-stringed traditional Manipuri instrument, so this will be the first time a Manipuri and a Swiss musician have collaborated to produce a distinctive style of music.
During the tour to promote Manipur and Manipuri arts and culture, folk artist Mangka Mangka from Laihui Ensemble will be joined by her father, Mangangsana Mayanglambam, an artistic director at Laihui, who will provide musical and vocal support, and Nirupa Sanjenbam, Head of Projects at MaolKeki Foundation, who will provide management support.
The tour’s high points include two performances that are free and accessible to the public: one on April 15 at the India Day Event in Riehen, Basel Stadt, Switzerland, and another on April 14 at the Caveau du Café littéraire in Saint Louis, France.
The European Manipuri Association, the Association of Friends of India Basel, Riehen Lebenskultur, Swisslos-Fonds Basel-Stadt, MaolKeki Foundation, and BalmeticaTM: Swiss Manufactured Physiotherapy Cream were among the organisations that provided assistance for the tour, according to the statement.
